Pina Earth and Yello: Partnership Makes German Forests Climate-Resilient

Munich-based ClimateTech startup Pina Earth, the market leader in certified climate protection projects in German forests, is entering into a long-term partnership with green energy provider Yello. Together, they are driving the transformation of monoculture forests into climate-resilient mixed forests. As part of the collaboration, Yello is investing in four forest projects across Germany – with more to follow. Already today, more than two million square meters of forest are being made "climate-fit" through this partnership. The goal is to support the financing of Pina Earth’s projects over several years, thereby helping to preserve Germany’s forests. Healthy forests are true climate heroes – they absorb CO₂, strengthen biodiversity, and withstand the effects of climate change.

Climate Contribution Automatically Included in Every Contract

Since 2025, every new electricity, heating electricity, and gas contract with Yello automatically includes a climate contribution of €2.50. This amount goes directly to Pina Earth’s forest transformation projects. In this way, customers actively support the ecological diversity of existing forests and the reforestation of damaged areas. With the climate contribution to Pina Earth’s projects, Yello is approaching climate protection hand in hand with its customers – a strong example of how companies can take the lead in driving change.

Dr. Gesa Biermann, founder and CEO of Pina Earth, explains: "With Yello, we’ve found a partner who sees climate protection not as an obligation, but as an opportunity. This partnership shows how companies can take responsibility while also inspiring their customers to support real climate action.”

Tech Startup Meets Sustainable Energy Sector

As a ClimateTech startup, Pina Earth combines scientific research with digital solutions to precisely calculate the CO₂ storage potential of forests. The company uses recognized forest growth simulations to assess climate risks and forecast the positive impact of forest transformation measures. Project progress is transparently documented in the Pina Earth Forest Dashboard.

The long-term partnership with Yello supports forest owners in financing their climate adaptation measures. This enables the creation of resilient forests that remain vital ecosystems and recreational spaces for future generations. As one of Germany’s most recognized energy providers, Yello is embracing its corporate responsibility and advancing Pina Earth’s innovative solutions through this collaboration. Through smart technology and close collaboration with forest owners, Yello makes it easy for consumers to contribute to climate protection.
Patrick Bottermann, Head of Sustainability at Yello, adds: “It’s important to make positive change visible right on our doorstep to inspire people about climate protection. The climate contribution is a tangible measure that we are implementing together with our customers.”

About Pina Earth

The digital startup Pina Earth develops scientifically grounded, certified climate protection projects that sustainably transform threatened forest areas and enhance their biodiversity. With its proprietary forest growth simulation, the additional CO₂ storage potential of the projects can be accurately calculated while taking climate risks into account. In 2024, Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) recognized Pina Earth as “Digital Startup of the Year 2024.”
